World Rowing Championships, Bled (Slovenia)

published: 05-Sep-2011

MUBC's athletes helped Australia to achieve its highest ever medal tally at the World Rowing Championships in Bled, Slovenia. The following MUBC members won medals:

  • Karsten Forsterling, World Champion in the men's quad scull
  • David Webster, coxed the men's lightweight eight to become world champion. He also coxed the pair to a silver. This is a reversal of the medals he won in NZ last year.
  • Kim Crow won the silver medal, closing the gap on the leading British boat

MUBC's athletes were also racing in other events that did not win medals but moved on significantly throughout the regatta and this season.

  • Cameron McKenzie McHarg and Tom Larkins formed a new MUBC pair combination and raced very well to win the B final and gain Olympic qualification
  • James Marburg and Josh Booth raced in the men's eight. They achieved Olympic qualification and very nearly came away with a medal after a brave race, placing fourth.
  • Alice MacNamara's lightweight double won their semi but were left behind at the start of the final finishing in fifth place

Whilst all this has been going on, we must not forget that Phoebe Stanley was flown home before the WRC on medical grounds. Knowing Phoebe, I expect that she will have hardened her resolve and is working on her recovery. MUBC wish her all the very best.
