Under 23 World Rowing Championships

MUBC at the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships 

Melbourne University Boat Club was proudly represented by four athletes across two Australian crews at the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships in Duisburg, Germany.

Held from 23–26 July, the Championships brought together more than 600 of the world’s best Under 23 rowers, with athletes competing for World Championship honours across a full program of rowing events.

4th — Men’s Eight - Winston Hooper & Tom Foley

Winston Hooper and Tom Foley lined up in the Australian Men’s Eight, which produced a strong performance throughout the regatta.

The crew opened their campaign with a 2nd-place finish in their heat, finishing behind the USA and ahead of the Netherlands to secure their place directly in the A-Final. Australia led through the opening 500m before the USA moved ahead in the second quarter of the race.

In the A-Final, the Australian Eight battled it out against some of the world's strongest Under 23 crews, ultimately finishing4th overall — an impressive result at the highest level of international age-group rowing.

8th — Women’s Four - Sarah Marriott & Chloe Nevins

Sarah Marriott and Chloe Nevins represented Australia in the Women’s Four, alongside Leila Gaston and Hannah Richardson.

The crew began their campaign with a strong 3rd-place finish in their heat, recovering from fourth position at the 1,000m mark to finish strongly and qualify for the semi-finals. Their time of 7:16.66 was enough to progress.

In the semi-final, the Australian crew finished 4th, narrowly missing out on a place in the A-Final and progressing to the B-Final.

They produced another strong performance in the B-Final, finishing 2nd, giving the crew an overall 8th-place finish at the World Championships.

A proud result for MUBC

With four MUBC athletes competing across two Australian crews, the 2026 World Rowing Under 23 Championships provided another opportunity for our young athletes to test themselves against the best emerging rowers from around the world.

A 4th-place finish in the Men’s Eight and 8th place in the Women’s Four represent strong results on the international stage and valuable experience for the next generation of Australian rowers.
