Vale Charles Bartlett

MUBC wishes to express our deep sadness and share our loss at the recent passing of Charles Bartlett (Charlie).

Charles was a great contributor to MUBC and shared his love of rowing and the club over many years. He was a World Champion lightweight rower, MUBC committee member and ultimately President (1991-1996).

In a period of Lightweight Rowing greatness and with MUBC as a superpower of the sport Charles was one of our greatest sons winning Gold at the 1980 & 1981 World Championships in the Mens’ Lightweight Four.

At the recent MUBC Boat christening Charles’ contribution to the club and his achievements were recognised with the naming of the Charles Bartlett Filippi 2/-. Represented on the day by his brother Dick Bartlett and family, Charles was said to be delighted to have a MUBC boat carry his name.

Today, led by President Christian Ryan, the MUBC Committee wishes to express our deepest sympathies to Charles’ family, his friends and rowing comrades and again recognise his enormous contribution to our club and the sport of rowing.

Vale Charles.
